Sony launched this week in Tokyo, a prototype 3D display that can be seen 360 degrees around and without the need for special glasses. Sony expected to use at home for three-dimensional images, and applications advertising.
The screen, which only few data are available, will premiere Thursday at the Digital Contents Expo in Tokyo. It is a cylindrical screen that can be seen from all sides and is 13 inches in diameter. The screen and its casing measuring 27 centimeters tall. Sony is expected that this type of display to be used in exhibits and public spaces for advertising or to convey information, or to be used at home to display photos and other images in 3D. However, the prototype of the screen is only compatible with a relatively low resolution of 96 by 128 pixels. Sony is betting big on images three dimensions and is committed to launch next year a LCD TV that can display 3D images. The company also intends to add 3D support to its PlayStation 3, Vaio laptops and Blu-ray. The Digital Contents Expo begins Thursday and runs through Sunday at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, also known as the Miraikan in Tokyo District Daiba. The entrance to the exhibition is free.
