Renaissance And Romeo And Juliet

silicon chip that functions as a brain

An international team of scientists has created a silicon chip designed to work like a human brain, totally impressive, containing 200,000 neuron as related by 50 million synaptic connections, the chip is able to mimic the brain's ability to learn a lot better than any other machine, and this leads me to say that every day we are closer to Skynet .
Scientists at Heidelberg University in Germany are using conventional techniques for producing silicon chips to create circuits that mimic the structure and functions of the human brain. The FACETS project objective is to develop powerful new computers inspired by the brain function.
This is not the first time someone has tried to recreate how the brain works. An investigation 'Blue Brain Project, directed by Henry Markram at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland, has been using databases created by neurologists to recreate a brain on a supercomputer from IBM. What differentiates this project FACETS other is that in this case not simulated neurons, but it is recreated.
a silicon wafer using standard 8-inch diameter, the researchers recreated the neurons and synapses (the communication process between neurons) with transistors and capacitors circuits qu and are designed to produce the same type of activity than their counterparts biological.
The advantage of this approach, compared with a simulation is that it allows researchers to recreate the brain of a very faithful. Although sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Physical models of the brain as chip computing power get so high that, in fact, think much faster than a brain. In fact, the current prototype can operate for about 100,000 times faster than a human brain and is able to simulate a day in a second.
